Much of the foods that are commonly known in being eaten in Thanksgiving weren't introduced til much later in the years. Foods such as Turkey, Pumkin pie, Potatoes, and cranberries were very commonly eaten by the pilgrims and Indians in the feast. The pilgrims didn't plan on contuining the celebration anually but instead, George Washington announced the first ever National Thanksgiving Holiday in 1789 which took place November 26th. Althought it didnt officially become a holiday until the 19th century. An American writer named Sara Josepha Hale wanted to reprise the feast again and she created a campaign that lasted nearly 30 years to create Thanksgiving as a National Holiday. She also published recipes that can be consumed by individuals for their own feasts at home.
